How did being discovered by a model agent at the age of 12 shape your career aspirations, and what were your initial thoughts when you were first approached?
Being discovered at such a young age was a pivotal moment for me. Initially, my focus was entirely on sports, and I aspired to play for the national team. When the model agent approached me on a train in London, it opened my eyes to a whole new world. At first, I wasn’t ready; I didn’t speak English well, and my heart was set on sports. However, this encounter planted a seed in my mind. Watching “America’s Next Top Model” further fueled my interest. By the time I turned 16, I decided to take modeling seriously, and I got signed in America. That decision changed my life’s trajectory.
What motivated you to pursue modeling seriously at the age of 16, and how did you prepare yourself for this transition?
At 16, I realized that modeling was more than just an opportunity—it was a passion. Watching “America’s Next Top Model” inspired me and made me believe in the possibility of a successful modeling career. I knew I had to prepare myself, both physically and mentally, for this transition. I worked on my fitness, honed my skills, and learned English to communicate effectively. I also immersed myself in the fashion industry, studying the work of top models and photographers. This preparation gave me the confidence to pursue modeling seriously and seize the opportunities that came my way.
What specific health challenges did you face early on in your career, and what steps did you take to overcome them and achieve a healthy mindset?
Early in my career, I struggled with my health and self-esteem. I constantly felt I wasn’t enough and was very hard on myself. This led to a period of unhappiness and self-doubt. Over time, I realized the importance of self-love and acceptance. I stopped running away from my problems and started facing them head-on. I worked on my mental and physical health, focusing on self-love and confidence. Today, I am in a good place both mentally and physically, and I get booked more than ever. The key was understanding that if you don’t love yourself, no one else will.
You’ve mentioned the importance of self-love and confidence in your journey. How do you practice and maintain self-love in an industry that constantly judges your appearance?
Practicing self-love in an industry that constantly judges your appearance is challenging but crucial. I maintain self-love by having a strict routine that includes daily workouts, meditation, yoga, and pilates. These practices help me stay grounded and focused. I also surround myself with positive influences and take “me time” to recharge. Reading books and continuous learning keep my mind sharp. Most importantly, I remind myself that the only person I need to impress and love is myself. Building a strong mindset and flipping negativity into positivity has been essential in maintaining my confidence.
How did the advice “it’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see” impact your perspective on life and your approach to overcoming challenges?
That piece of advice fundamentally changed my outlook on life. It taught me to see beyond the surface and appreciate the deeper meaning of situations. I started feeling gratitude for the small things and where I was in life. This shift in perspective helped me control my mind and view challenges as opportunities for growth. Today, I can be comfortable in uncomfortable situations, and not much can phase me. Understanding that life happens for me, not to me, has been empowering. This mindset has allowed me to stay positive and resilient in the face of adversity.
In balancing your demanding modeling career with your personal life, what daily routines or habits do you find most effective for maintaining your mental and physical well-being?
Balancing my career and personal life requires a strict schedule and disciplined habits. I wake up early and go to bed early to maximize my productivity. My day starts with meditation and yoga, setting a positive tone for the day. I work out for a minimum of two hours daily, which keeps me physically fit and mentally sharp. Spending time with loved ones and taking “me time” helps me recharge. I also read daily to keep learning and growing. These routines and habits ensure that I stay balanced, focused, and ready to tackle the demands of my career while maintaining a healthy personal life.
How has discovering David Goggins influenced your career and mindset, particularly regarding his book “Never Finished”?
Discovering David Goggins has been a game-changer for me. His book “Never Finished” has profoundly impacted my mindset. Goggins’ relentless determination and resilience resonate with me deeply. He embodies the idea that we are capable of much more than we think. Reading his book has pushed me to challenge my limits and never settle for mediocrity. His philosophy of mental toughness has inspired me to stay disciplined and work harder, even when times are tough. Goggins has taught me that the only way to grow is to embrace discomfort and keep pushing forward, no matter what.
Can you share more about your current situation in Sweden and how you are managing your personal and professional responsibilities during this challenging time?
Currently, I’m in Sweden to be by my grandmother’s side as she is very sick. It’s a hard and sad period for my family and me, but I ensure not to skip a day of working out. Staying fit and focusing on my mind, body, and spirit helps me stay strong for my family and ready for life’s challenges. Despite the difficulties, I continue to work on my career. My next stop is Paris, followed by Spain to take some content for my book, then Iceland for their biggest fashion week, and later Cape Town for three months with my model agency. After that, I’ll head to Italy to prepare for the Miss Europe final. Keeping up with my daily routines of meditation, yoga, running, and reading, especially Goggins’ “Never Finished,” helps me stay grounded and focused during this busy and emotional time.
